St. Petersburg University of Management Technologies and Economics (UMTE) is the largest private university in the North-West of Russia, operating under the scientific and methodological guidance of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It implements over 90 educational programs of undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate studies in the following areas: economics, management, public administration, information technologies, law, advertising and PR, marketing, linguistics, hotel business and tourism, personnel management, psychology and pedagogy etc. The University has introduced an effective system of life-long learning education under the programs of college, undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate and additional education. Modern technologies, distance and online learning are actively used in studies at UMTE. The University has over 12000 students, including more than 1000 international students.

The main task of the University is to train a new type of managers, modern leaders capable of organizing effective business processes in the context of digital transformation, globalization and regionalization of the economy, which impose new requirements for the formation of innovative skills, information openness and cybersecurity.

The University cooperates with different Russian enterprises and organizations, where students are interned and successfully employed.  Among the partners and clients of UMTE are the Government Authorities,  Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gazprom, Russian Railways, Rosneft, Sberbank, VTB, Bank Saint-Petersburg, Kirovenergomash, Imperial Porcelain Factory, Tele 2 Russia, Petersburg TV and Radio Company, Channel 5 and many others.

For more than 20 years, the University has been fulfilling the state order - it participates in the implementation of the Presidential Management Training Programme.

UMTE cooperates with the world's leading universities, implementing International Double Degree Programmes, academic mobility programmes.

The University is included by the Russian Academy of Sciences in the list of institutions working under the scientific and methodological guidance of RAS, the university was awarded the status of “academic university”. The academic orientation of the University is noted by the European Academy of Arts and Sciences, the International Association of Universities and other foreign organizations. Well-known foreign and Russian scientists, Nobel Prize laureates in economics, Professors A. Sen, R. Merton from Harvard University, W. Sharpe from Stanford University, and others have been research supervisors and consultants in scientific projects and educational programs of the University. Sharp, O. Williamson at the University of California Berkeley, P. Diamond at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, R. Myerson at the University of Chicago, and E. Phelps at Columbia University; members of the Russian Academy of Sciences: A. Kokoshin, A. Nekipelov, S. Glazyev, A. Afinogenova, A. Aganbegyan, V. V. Ocrylov, B.N. Porfiriev, V.I. Maevski, V.L. Makarov and others.

The university publishes scientific journals “Economics and Management”, “Sociology and Law” (included in the VAK list of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation), “Scientific Notes of UMTE”. Scientific articles of graduate students and teachers of the university are indexed in the international scientific metrics databases Scopus, Web of Science and RSCI.

A number of projects are implemented with regional structures of RAS: in the Far East (Khabarovsk); in the Urals (Yekaterinburg); in Siberia (Novosibirsk); in the Republic of Karelia (Petrozavodsk); in the Northwestern Federal District (Kola Scientific Center), etc. Traditionally the University holds major congress events and scientific conferences organized together with the institutes of RAS and the Government of St. Petersburg: “The role of intellectual capital in the economic, social and legal culture of the XXI century”, “Modernization of Russian economy: forecasts and reality”, “Main economic, legal and social aspects of the Concept “Industry 4.0”, “Dialogue Europe – Russia”, “Development of financial relations in the formation of digital economy”, “Human rights activities in modern Russia: problems and solutions”, “Problems of development of domestic and inbound tourism in the regions of Russian Federation”, etc.

UMTE pays special attention to the research of undergraduate and graduate students who annually become winners of the scholarship of the Government and President of the Russian Federation, competitions of the Government of St. Petersburg: “Student of the Year”, “Best Student”, grant competition for students organized by industry and academic institutions located in St. Petersburg and competitions of the Russian State Science Foundation.
