For 11 days (March 2-12) Krasnoyarsk became the host city of the International University Winter Sport Games. UMTE students were active participants in the major sports events. The branch of the University – Krasnoyarsk Institute of Economics - had its own "Headquarters of the Universiade – 2019", as a part of the project "City volunteers".

The youth version of the Olympics, the International Sport Games, or simply the Universiade has been a second most important international event in the world’s sports arena for more than 50 years.

The Universiade is an international sports competition among students, is held by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The name "Universiade" comes from the words "University" and "Olympics". Student competitions are held every two years, unlike the four-year Olympic events. Students from the age of 17 to 25 years and graduates who have received an academic degree or a diploma in the year preceding the competition are allowed to participate in the competitions.  The program of the Universiade includes mandatory (the list is approved by FISU prior to the to the application) and optional (additional) sport events that the host country determines, provided that they meet all the requirements of the International University Sports Federation.

The the number of participants in the Winter Universiade 2019 is record high. For 11 days, athletes from 58 countries competed in 11 different sport events.

Members of our university were a a part of the Torch Relay of the XXIX World Winter Universiade. Andrey Matuzov, represented our university in the relay on October 27, 2018 in St. Petersburg.
