The joint project of Saint Petersburg University of Management Technologies and Economics and Bukhara State University (Uzbekistan), aimed at introducing students to the cultural heritage of both countries, has successfully come to an end.
The events within the framework of this project were held on May 15, 22 and 29. On the first day, students from both universities got acquainted with the cultural and historical heritage of Russia. Alexander Baranov, Associate Professor of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality of UMTE, introduced the participants to the most significant sites of Russia, which are included in the UNESCO List. Special attention was paid to St. Petersburg, where the first Russian World Heritage Site is located – “The Historical Center of St. Petersburg and related groups of monuments”.
During the second event, Zebiniso Kurbanova, a lecturer of Bukhara State University, told the students about Itchan Kala, which is an inner town surrounded by defensive walls of the city of Khiva in Uzbekistan. The walls of this ancient citadel still keep traces of 500 years of history and numerous legends.
The last event was dedicated to holiday traditions and customs of Russia and Uzbekistan. Shafoat Kadirova, a lecturer of Bukhara State University, introduced UMTE students to the holiday of spring and New Year according to the astronomical solar calendar - Nowruz, which was included in the UNESCO List in 2009.
George Varlamov, Head of International Cooperation Department: “This is the first experience of implementing events in this format with our partners from Bukhara. The great interest in the project exceeded all our expectations, so we agreed with our colleagues to continue it in the next academic year. The possible topics were suggested by students' questions and comments from our wonderful experts. Therefore, we take this opportunity to invite everyone to another virtual journey through the unique cultural, historical and natural sites of Russia and Uzbekistan!”
