Students and staff from Saint Petersburg University of Management Technologies and Economics participated in a solemn memorial ceremony, laying flowers at the Memorial for the People's Militia of the Leningrad District in the square near the Baltic Railway Station.
Eighty years ago, on August 9, 1944, the Battle of Leningrad concluded – the longest battle of the Great Patriotic War. The heroic defense of Leningrad has become a symbol of the courage of the Soviet people. Through immense hardships, heroism, and self-sacrifice, the soldiers and residents of Leningrad defended the city. Hundreds of thousands of fighters were awarded government honors, 486 received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, and the city of Leningrad was awarded the «Golden Star» medal and designated the title of «Hero City».
In honor of this significant event in the city's history, students and staff from Saint Petersburg State University of Management Technologies and Economics participated in a solemn memorial ceremony at the Memorial for the People's Militia of the Leningrad District. The memory of those who fell in the Battle of Leningrad was commemorated by the head of the Admiralteysky District Administration, Sergey Overchuk, the Rector of UMTE, Oleg Smeshko, the Vice-Rector for External Relations and Work with Applicants, Vladimir Dmitriev, students from higher and secondary educational institutions, and residents of the city.
In the square in front of the Baltic Railway Station, participants observed a moment of silence and laid flowers at the granite stele – a symbol of the undefeated Leningrad.
