20th Anniversary of the Tragedy in Beslan: Day of Remembrance and Mourning

02 September 2024

Today we remember the tragedy in Beslan, when terrorists seized School No. 1, holding over a thousand hostages, including children, their parents, and teachers. The tragedy claimed the lives of 333 people, 186 of whom were children.

In many cities across Russia, mourning events took place, and people lit candles in memory of the victims. In Beslan, a memorial service was held, and flowers were brought to the memorials. Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured, urging that such tragedies should never be allowed to happen again.

This date remains a painful reminder for the entire country. In schools, lessons of remembrance were conducted, and on social media, users expressed their support for the families of the victims and reminded everyone of the necessity to combat terrorism. The tragedy in Beslan will forever remain in Russia's history as a symbol of tremendous human loss and resilience of spirit.
