This semester six students of St. Petersburg University of Management Technologies and Economics went to study abroad under the international academic mobility program. They gladly shared their first impressions about the country of internship and studying at a foreign university.
This year the geography of universities where UMTE students have semester internships has significantly expanded – for now our students are in the Chinese city of Shanghai, in Macau and Hong Kong, special administrative regions of China, in Vietnam and in Belarus.
Maria Frolova, Linguistics: «Studying in Shanghai is a unique experience. The teachers are kind and understanding, classmates are interesting because they are all from different countries, and the university itself is very neat and nice looking. Shanghai is just huge and full of a variety of food and things to do. So far, there has never been a day when I regretted coming here to study».
Ekaterina Kabaeva, International Financial Management: «In September I went to Macau, China with an exchange program. I have been here for three weeks, and so far this is the brightest event in my life. Studying here, I dived into a completely different life - colorful, rich and completely different from my usual one. I chose the subjects I study here myself and I am very happy with the comprehensive way of teaching here. Impressions from travel, new friends, new knowledge - this is the minimum you can bring home after being on an exchange program! I am so glad I had this opportunity».
Tatiana Dydykina, Linguistics: «I have been in Hong Kong for almost a month now and I want to say that Hong Kong is completely different from mainland China. The first thing that makes Hong Kong different from mainland China is the fact that everyone is ready to help you, and everyone from student to the elderly can speak English. Secondly, the culture is much different from Chinese one. Of course, Hong Kong was a British colony and this had a specific impact on the locals and their culture. Actually, I think there are much more differences, but that's the first thing that comes to mind. As for student life, apart from me, this year's exchange students also come from Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, South Korea, Spain, Canada and the UK. Everyone is very kind and sociable. It's a real paradise for extroverts».
However, that’s not all news. Four more students are going to study in Thailand. This country has different semester start dates, so they are going later than the others. We will definitely share their feedback when the time comes.
