Every year on September 30, many countries celebrate the professional holiday of interpreters and translators – International Translation Day. Institute of language communication and psychology held a number of events in honor of the professional holiday together with the students.
In 2017, at its regular meeting, the United Nations General Assembly passed with one voice a Resolution (A/RES/71/288) recognizing the role of professional translation in connecting nations, promoting peace, understanding and development, and September 30 was declared International Translation Day.
The aim of the new international date is to affirm that professional translation, as both a handicraft and an art, plays a vital role in achieving the goals and observance of the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, convergence of nations, fostering dialogue, mutual understanding, and cooperation, as well as ensuring development and strengthening international peace and security.
Institute of language communication and psychology held a number of events in honor of the professional holiday together with the students. Students demonstrated creative ideas and professional skills on the materials of the work of A. S. Pushkin, dedicating their works to his 225th anniversary. Thus, first and second-year students held a quiz titled "Sprint for Polyglots: Pushkin in Different Languages." The participants read Pushkin's poems translated into English, German, and Spanish, while the audience in the hall had to identify the original work.
Third and fourth-year students participated in a round table discussion titled "Pushkin in Authorial Translations and Performances." The students shared their translations, creative insights, and original solutions to translation challenges.
Students of the department actively participate in various competitions of professional translation mastery. One of the traditional competitions for our students is the V International Translation Competition, dedicated to International Translation Day, organized by Mari State University.
The teachers of the department took part in the II All-Russian scientific and practical conference with international participation "Challenges, opportunities, horizons for translation and training of translators in modern social, political and economic realias".
