On October 11, 2024, Saint Petersburg University of Management Technologies and Economics welcomed a delegation from Malaysia, which included Shamsuri Abdullah, Director of Ungku Omar Polytechnic, and Muhammad Farihan Irfan Mohd Nor, Special Officer to the Minister of Higher Education of Malaysia.
Active collaboration with Malaysia began earlier this spring when the International Center for Cultural Communications of Malaysia (ICCCM) expressed its desire to develop a partnership with UMTE. One of the outcomes of this collaboration was the jointly organized conference "E-Commerce & Management Powerhouse Summit," held on October 3. Following the results of the conference, Ungku Omar Polytechnic, whose representatives also participated in the event, expressed interest in further developing partnerships with UMTE.
With these goals in mind, the Malaysian delegation visited UMTE and met with Anna Rumyantseva, Vice-Rector for Research and International Affairs. She shared insights about the university's scientific and international activities, as well as its experience in organizing research work for students and faculty. Georgiy Varlamov, Head of International Cooperation Department, introduced the guests to the university's structure, history, and infrastructure. During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for signing a cooperation agreement in the fields of education and science, student academic mobility, the implementation of joint scientific and educational online projects, and the organization of international summer schools in Saint Petersburg.
As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to sign a cooperation agreement between the universities, expand areas of collaboration and took commemorative photos together.
