UMTE Students Explore the World, Part 2: A Semester in Thailand

08 November 2024

This semester ten students from Saint Petersburg University of Management Technologies and Economics (UMTE) went abroad to study under the academic mobility program. They are happy to share their first impressions of their internship programs and study experiences at foreign universities.

Previously we published feedback from students who were studying in Shanghai, Macau, and Hong Kong (special administrative regions of China), as well as in Vietnam and Belarus. We also mentioned that four more students were about to go to Thailand. Now we are ready to share their impressions as well!

This time Denis Grigoriev, a third-year student of Advertising and Public Relations, who is doing a semester internship at Walailak University (Thailand), shared his thoughts of first weeks spent in another country.

Denis Grigoriev: “Hey there, fellow countrymen! My name is Denis Grigoriev, and I’m a third-year International Advertising student.

While winter is gradually coming to Saint Petersburg, I’ve already spent two weeks in Thailand at Walailak University. I want to express my gratitude to our university for giving me this opportunity - it’s truly an unforgettable life experience. I’ve always dreamed about living in a huge campus with all the perks that come with it.

There’re many other students from Saint Petersburg, as well as from Germany, Uzbekistan and Asian countries. We are ALWAYS doing something. There’re many ways to spend your time well: golf, tennis, basketball, football, badminton. The University also provides us with a gym, swimming pool and running tracks that are spread out over a 10-square-kilometer campus! Add to that bike rides with the wind in your face, nearby beaches and delicious food – all this creates an atmosphere that you miss during autumn and winter.

The people around me, including the professors, are wonderful and incredibly supportive.

The learning process feels different here. It’s more relaxed, even though classes last for three hours.

If you’re doubting yourself, you’re making a BIG mistake. Go for it and fight for such opportunities!”
