Sri Lanka is becoming a very promising area of international cooperation. UMTE intends to develop cooperation with universities in this region and has signed the agreement with the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka.

Negotiations between universities were conducted for several months and the parties managed to reach important agreements on the development of cooperation in the field of education and science.

An important event in the establishment of partnership relations was the visit of a delegation from Saint Petersburg University of Management Technologies and Economics to the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka

The negotiations and business meeting resulted in a Memorandum of Understanding, in accordance with which the universities are interested in developing student exchange programs, academic mobility of teachers, as well as joint scientific seminars and conferences.

The Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka was established on 7 November 1995. Since its inception, the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka has graduated over 30,000 students in various disciplines including Agricultural Sciences, Applied Sciences, Geomatics, Management Studies, Medicine, Social Science and Languages, Technology, Computing, and Graduate Studies.

The Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka now stands as the present-day link to such tradition of knowledge and wisdom, which is the 12th national university of contemporary Sri Lanka.
